In a significant application of Aniah’s Law, a defendant accused of intentional murder in a Baldwin County shooting that tragically claimed three lives was denied bond on Monday, underscoring the severity of the charges and the need to prioritize public safety.
The suspect, Tyquan French, a 19-year-old from Bay Minette, was already on probation for a prior offense of firing into an occupied building at the time of the shooting, further complicating the legal landscape surrounding the case.
According to court documents, a witness came forward claiming to have seen French shoot Christian Bradley three times during the May Day celebration held in Baldwin County’s Stockton neighborhood on May 11. The shooting, which resulted in the loss of three lives, including Bradley’s, and left an additional 19 individuals injured, sent shockwaves through the community.
Prosecutors presented compelling evidence indicating that French had not only committed the shooting but also admitted to the act, stating that he had “just lost it” in the heat of the moment. With approximately one thousand people present at the event, the brazen nature of the crime further underscores the urgency of the legal proceedings.
The presiding judge deemed French’s detention without bond necessary, concluding that, given the severity of the charges and the circumstances surrounding the case, he posed a significant threat to public safety.
In addition to French, Robert G. Brown, a 24-year-old from Mobile, was also charged in connection with the shooting, facing a charge of first-degree assault. While the legal process unfolds, the community grapples with the profound loss and seeks justice for the victims and their families.
The denial of bond under Aniah’s Law serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing public safety and holding individuals accountable for their actions, particularly in cases of such egregious violence. As the investigation progresses, the community remains vigilant and united in its pursuit of justice and healing after this devastating tragedy.
