A tragic accident on Tuesday night claimed the life of 42-year-old Michael Waskel as he attempted to cross a major road on the far west side of Columbus. According to the Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit, the incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. in the Galloway Ridge neighborhood. Waskel was crossing West Broad Street from north to south, east of the Rockbrook Crossing Avenue intersection, outside of a marked crosswalk.
As Waskel attempted to cross, he was struck by an eastbound Dodge Charger in the second eastbound lane. The impact of the collision knocked Waskel to the south side of the road. Emergency responders, including a Columbus Fire Medic team, quickly arrived at the scene and transported Waskel to Doctor’s West Hospital. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at 9:43 p.m.
The Dodge Charger driver remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. The Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances and contributing factors of the accident.
