Ricardis Loveikis Death: Six years ago, the tragic death of Ricardis Loveikis, a 47-year-old single father and long-time employee of E&I Engineering in Burnfoot, shook the Inishowen community. On March 18, 2018, Loveikis was found unconscious with unexplained injuries at his home in Oakfield Close, Buncrana, and was later pronounced dead.
Following an investigation and inquest, Coroner Dr. Denis McCauley ruled the death as accidental, with no evidence of foul play. Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Linda Mulligan’s post-mortem revealed that Loveikis had suffered from a severely fractured arm, a dislocated shoulder, and significant blunt force trauma, likely caused by a minor traffic collision on Slab Road, Burnfoot, the previous evening.
The inquest concluded that Loveikis’ death was due to a combination of untreated injuries from the accident, acute alcohol intoxication, and pre-existing alcohol-induced cardiomyopathy, which led to cardiac arrest. The Gardai investigation ruled out criminal involvement, attributing the injuries to a possible fall or the collision itself. Unfortunately, the lack of medical attention following the incident contributed to the tragic outcome.
