Suffolk County police reported a tragic car crash early Saturday morning in West Babylon, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and serious injuries to four others.
The accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. at the intersection of Great East Neck Road and Railroad Avenue.
According to detectives, 33-year-old Michael Desmond from Lindenhurst was driving a 2017 Kia sedan eastbound on Railroad Avenue when he failed to stop at a red light at the intersection. His vehicle collided with a 2025 Kia Seltos traveling south on Great East Neck Road.
Desmond was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. In the Seltos, 18-year-old Riley Goot from Babylon, a passenger, was critically injured and later pronounced dead at Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip.
The driver of the Seltos, 17-year-old Bella Trezza, along with passengers 18-year-old Austin Trezza and 18-year-old Jack Murphy, all from Babylon, sustained serious injuries and were also transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital for treatment. Another passenger, 16-year-old Anthony Pagliuca from West Babylon, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he is receiving care for serious injuries.
