The vehicle, a 2008 Ford F-150 driven by Maerling, had been spotted between exits 119 and 118. According to state police, a City of Middletown officer attempted to stop the truck, but Maerling continued speeding and driving erratically.
Despite efforts to halt the vehicle, Maerling evaded law enforcement and crashed through a barricade before colliding with a tractor-trailer near Exit 122 in Goshen. Witnesses reported that Maerling was traveling over 100 miles per hour at the time of the crash.
