According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), 63-year-old David Odell of Eight Mile sadly perished in a single-vehicle collision on Thursday afternoon. Odell lost control of his 2024 Freightliner dump truck and it overturned as it went off the road.
The collision happened in Escambia County on Atmosphere Road, close to Poarch Road, about six miles north of Atmore. Odell was not using a seatbelt at the time of the collision that resulted in his death, according to ALEA officials. At the scene, he was declared deceased.
While the accident’s circumstances are still being looked into, ALEA stressed how crucial it is to use seatbelts in order to avoid tragedies like this one. His town has suffered a terrible loss with Odell’s demise, and friends and family are still coming to terms with the sudden loss.
David W. Odell’s legacy in the Eight Mile neighborhood will be his contributions and presence. There’s a vacuum left by his abrupt departure that words cannot express.
