It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear friend, Mary Lee OAM, last Friday. To honor her remarkable life, we will be holding a memorial gathering next Monday evening at the Consulate General of Ireland. We invite all who knew Mary to join us in paying respects and celebrating her legacy.

Mary Lee was born into a farming family in Croghan, Co. Roscommon, just outside of Boyle. Her incredible life was marked by many achievements and accolades, including being named the Irish Australian of the Year in 1987. She was also honored with The Lansdowne Club Individual Achievement Award in 2001 and the Chairman’s Award in 2010.
Mary’s services to the Ireland Funds were vital, where she became a Lifetime Governor in 2010. Her enthusiasm for Ireland and her excellent people skills made her a star fundraiser, earning an amazing $1.7 million to create the Chair of Irish Studies at the University of New South Wales.
Mary’s devotion, generosity, and passion for her heritage will be lovingly remembered by those who knew her. In honour of her life and the contributions she made, we ask that you join us.
