It is with great sadness that I share the passing of my cousin, Randy Small. Randy was an exceptionally talented musician, whose skills and passion left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of working with him. One of his bandmates once said, “Randy was among the best sax players I’ve ever or ever will work with.” This statement perfectly encapsulates the level of talent he brought to every performance.
A proud graduate of Fort Hunt High School, Class of 1968, Randy was a key member of the Uptown Rhythm Kings, where his saxophone skills truly shone. However, his musical talents extended far beyond that. Randy had an incredible ability to play almost any instrument that came his way—whether it was the banjo, violin, clarinet, or even the concertina, he could master it all.
Randy will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless people whose lives he touched through his music. We will be planning a celebration of his life in the near future to honor the amazing person and musician he was.
