Suddenly on Saturday, October 12, John, who had been a crucial member of our Adnams team for over two decades, passed away. John, a 55-year-old electrical engineer at the company, developed a greater interest in the world of brewing and distilling and subsequently pursued and passed his brewing exams. By 2009, he was selected to serve as the chief engineer for the new distillery project.
He was recognized for his unwavering dedication to quality and innovative approach, and he subsequently created more than 30 distinct gin recipes in the laboratory prior to the distillery’s official inauguration.
John was the individual who effectively developed the recipe for Adnams’ best-selling Copper House Dry Gin, which was introduced in 2010 and has since garnered numerous accolades. He subsequently created a diverse and comprehensive selection of spirits for Adnams, earning numerous prestigious international accolades, such as Gold Medals in the World Whiskies Awards and Gold Outstanding in the International Wine & Spirits Competition.
He assisted Adnams in obtaining additional accolades, including the titles of World’s Best Gin, World’s Best Vodka, and World’s Best Vodka Producer, as well as England’s Best Rye Whisky.
John was a member of The Worshipful Company of Distillers, The Gin Guild, and The English Whisky Guild, and he earned a Diploma in Distilling from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling. Jenny Hanlon, CEO, expressed her profound sorrow upon learning of John’s passing: “We are all deeply saddened.” He was a devoted and exceptionally accomplished professional, as well as a wonderful friend, mentor, and colleague. “Regardless of his workload, John made time for everyone and anyone.” He was one of those exceptional individuals who truly made an impact.
