On Friday, a lockdown was implemented at Hughes Middle School after students reported that there was a possible intruder on campus. However, authorities promptly combed through the campus and found that there was no need for worry, as stated by an official from the school.
This precautionary lockout was implemented at the school, according to Elvia Cano, a spokesman for the Long Beach Unified School District. According to Cano, the lockout provoked unsubstantiated rumors that someone on campus was in possession of a firearm. Additionally, the nearby Longfellow Elementary School went into a precautionary lockdown as a result of the lockdown.
“Officers conducted an investigation and have determined that a person with a gun was not seen near or on campus, and there is no active threat to the school,” the Long Beach Police Department stated in an email that was not signed indicating that the investigation was completed.
The school, on the other hand, began to get visits from parents who were concerned.

“Hughes middle school was on lockdown due to reports of an attempted school shooting. I was on my way to my hair appointment and my hair dresser (who’s also like a sister to me) called me to say she had to leave to pick up her daughter as the school was on lockdown. I busted a u-turn so quick and headed to the school to be there for her and her child. I have never seen anything like the madness I saw. So many terrified parents, fathers screaming at school personnel who wouldn’t let them get to their kids right away (protocol), so much sadness and fear. Broke my heart. This world is crazy. I have the baby, we’re having lunch while mom helps out at the school. She was afraid, but she’s safe.”
