The impact was devastating, and the driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. In the aftermath of the crash, the driver of the Holden reportedly fled on foot. However, authorities apprehended a 43-year-old man believed to be behind the wheel of the Toyota shortly thereafter on Chapel St. He was taken to Nepean Hospital under police guard for mandatory testing.
The highway has been closed in both directions between Glossop St and Sydney St as authorities work to establish a crime scene and conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
