In a shooting that San Antonio police are describing as a “terrible tragedy,” a baby died. The San Antonio Medical Centre was the scene of the shooting on Monday afternoon, October 21. William McManus, the chief of police in San Antonio, reported that four people—three children and one woman—were inside a car that was parked in the 7400 block of Merton Minter, which is the site for the Veterans Affairs Hospital according to a Google Map. There was a loaded weapon in the truck as well.
According to Chief McManus, one of the kids grabbed what was referred to as a “long gun” and shot the baby. The infant was declared dead at the scene despite the efforts of VA Hospital paramedics to revive him. The child is between 10 and 11 months old, according to the police. The other two kids in the car were two and three years old.
While briefing the media on Monday afternoon, Chief McManus provided little information on the case, emphasizing that it is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation progresses. The woman’s relationship with the deceased child and the children in the car is unknown. They are thought to have had an appointment.
