The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said that a pickup truck driver was killed in Iredell County on Sunday afternoon when he collided with a semi.
The incident happened on Sunday, October 27, just after 4 p.m. on U.S. 64 near Lippard Farm Road, west of Statesville, according to state troopers. On U.S. 64, a 2005 Ford F-250 was traveling west when it tried to pass cars heading west in a no-passing area.
The truck then struck a 2025 Peterbilt semi-truck traveling west without a trailer.
Anthony Drake Villeda, 30, of Hiddenite, was the driver of the Ford and was declared dead at the site. There was no harm to a minor who was a passenger in the car.
The 54-year-old Hiddenite resident who was the Peterbilt’s driver was unharmed.
According to troopers, the preliminary investigation shows that the crash was caused in part by reckless and careless driving.
The N.C. Department of Transportation said Sunday afternoon that U.S. 64 was closed in the area. In this instance, no charges will be brought.
