It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Tracy Elda Mary Martin (née Spooner), a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. After a courageous and unwavering battle with ovarian cancer, Tracy left this world peacefully on Monday, October 29, 2024, at the age of 48, with her beloved family by her side.
Tracy was born on July 18, 1976, in Sudbury, Ontario, to her loving parents, Larry and Ginette Spooner. Throughout her life, she brought an enduring light to her family and friends, displaying a fierce love for those she held dear. On April 30, 1994, she married her soulmate, Paul Martin, whom she had met while lifeguarding at Nickel District Pool in Sudbury. Their love story spanned over 30 years, filled with laughter, mutual support, and an unwavering dedication to each other and their family. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four daughters, each of whom Tracy treasured deeply: Abigail (Kevin Bowman), Kaylee (Ryan Hopcraft), Alexis (Justin Greig), and Kiandra (Zack Vokes). Her family was her greatest pride and joy, and she took on each day with her loved ones at the center of her heart.
As a grandmother, Tracy’s love knew no bounds. She embraced her role with joy and a dedication that was unmatched. Her grandchildren—Scotlyn, William, Charlotte, Raelyn, Everly, and Brynlee—brought her immense happiness, and she doted on each of them with a loving, gentle spirit that made her “Nana” in every sense of the word. She spent countless days creating cherished memories with them, filling their lives with warmth, laughter, and an abundance of love that they will carry forward.
Tracy was the adored granddaughter of William (predeceased) and Elda Spooner, as well as Rolland and Jeannine Joyal (both predeceased). She was a beloved daughter-in-law to Dave and Heather Martin, who welcomed her into their family with open arms. Tracy’s presence enriched the lives of those around her, and she held a special place as a sister to Lee-Ann Spooner (Ciaran McCarthy) and Tina (Matt Gardy), as well as a sister-in-law to Brian Martin (Bryn), Steve Martin, and Tamara McDonald. As an aunt to Drake, Kaden, Chloe, Avery, Rowen, Aubrie, Benjamin, Brooklyn, and Tommy, she shared her warmth and nurturing spirit, forever leaving her imprint on their lives.
From an early age, Tracy displayed a remarkable capacity for love and selflessness, embodying a commitment to others that defined her every day. Her calling to motherhood and nurturing was evident in the unwavering support and dedication she showed to her family and friends. She prioritized the needs of others and found joy in giving of herself without hesitation. Whether it was a thoughtful gesture, a word of encouragement, or her unflagging presence, Tracy’s influence extended far and wide, offering strength to those who needed it most.
Raising her four daughters was Tracy’s life’s passion. She attended every game, match, and recital, cheering them on in hockey, baseball, and volleyball and engaging deeply in the details of their lives. Not a day went by without her staying connected, ensuring that her girls knew they were loved and supported. Her daughters knew they could always rely on their mother’s wisdom and encouragement, as Tracy shared in both their joys and challenges. She was there for every milestone, big or small, her bond with them unbreakable.
Her deep friendships were an integral part of her life. Tracy’s best friend, Carrie Vokes, was a constant source of support and joy, and Julie Laferriere, whom she considered a “fourth sister,” was by her side through life’s journey. Tracy’s community was more than just people; it was an extension of her family, and her friendship was a true gift to those she cherished.
Beyond her family, Tracy’s vibrant personality shone through in the everyday joys she found in life. She was known for her quick wit, infectious smile, and a love for shopping that was less about material possessions and more about finding the perfect gift for those she loved. Her life was centered on family gatherings, whether around her backyard pool in the summer or sharing stories in her cozy living room. She created a welcoming home, where laughter and togetherness were in endless supply.
A central theme of Tracy’s life was the way she fostered unity and built meaningful connections. She had a gift for making people feel welcome, bringing friends and family together in a spirit of love and joy. Her door was always open, and each day she worked to create a nurturing environment for those closest to her. Tracy believed that time with loved ones was invaluable, and she lived by the belief that every moment together was a gift not to be taken for granted. Through the years, she built a legacy of love, care, and compassion, remaining a source of stability and comfort for her entire family.
Tracy’s life was defined by her strength, resilience, and the deep values she instilled in her family. Her legacy of unconditional love, loyalty, respect, generosity, and togetherness will be cherished by her family and friends for generations. She was subtle in her ways but powerful in her impact—a quiet force whose absence will be felt profoundly by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her influence lives on in her daughters, grandchildren, and all who were touched by her kindness.
A funeral service honoring Tracy’s life will be held at the Port Elgin United Church, located at 840 Bruce St, Port Elgin, on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. The family invites friends, relatives, and all who loved her to come and pay their respects as they celebrate a life so well-lived.

Those attending are welcome to bring stories to share, as Tracy’s memory will live on through the lives she impacted, the laughter she inspired, and the love she so freely gave.
Though her time here was far too short, Tracy’s legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will endure. Her life reminds us of the importance of family, friendship, and generosity. She leaves behind a profound impact, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. May Tracy rest in peace, forever remembered and deeply loved.
