It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Dawson, a cherished member of the Columbus, Ohio community, who left us on October 30, 2023, at the age of 75. Bill was known for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering commitment to family and friends.
Born on March 12, 1948, in Columbus, Bill was the eldest of four siblings. He graduated from North High School and went on to pursue a career in engineering, earning his degree from The Ohio State University. Bill’s career was marked by innovation and dedication, as he worked for several local firms, contributing to projects that shaped the city he loved.
Bill was not just a successful professional; he was also an active member of his community. He volunteered his time with various local organizations, often lending his engineering expertise to community projects and initiatives. Bill was passionate about giving back and believed in the importance of building a stronger, more connected community.
An avid sports fan, Bill was a lifelong supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes, rarely missing a game. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he often hosted friends and family for game days, where his legendary chili and hospitality brought everyone together.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Susan; their two children, Michael and Jessica; and five grandchildren, all of whom were the pride of his life. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always prioritizing family time and creating lasting memories.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on November 5, 2023, at the Columbus Community Center. Friends, family, and all who knew him are invited to share stories and honor his remarkable legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local charity that supports education and youth programs, reflecting Bill’s belief in the power of giving back.
As we remember Bill Dawson, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to community. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
