It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Darrell Sells, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life on October 28, 2023, in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Darrell was born on March 15, 1955, to the late Robert and Helen Sells. His life was characterized by a deep love for his family, a passion for his community, and an unwavering commitment to his work.
Darrell grew up in Dyersburg and was a proud graduate of Dyersburg High School. From a young age, he exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit and a dedication to hard work. He began his career in the family business, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors. Over the years, he established himself as a respected figure in the local business community, known for his integrity and strong work ethic.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Darrell was deeply committed to his community. He actively participated in various local organizations, helping to improve the lives of those around him. Whether it was volunteering for community events or supporting local charities, Darrell believed in giving back and making a positive impact. His kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on many.
Darrell’s greatest joy, however, came from his family. He married the love of his life, Susan, in 1977. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Matthew and Jennifer, who were the pride and joy of their lives. Darrell was a dedicated father, always present for school events, sports games, and family gatherings. He took great pride in his children’s accomplishments and instilled in them the values of hard work, honesty, and compassion.
As a grandfather, Darrell found immense joy in his role. His grandchildren, Emma, Jack, and Sophie, brought a special light into his life. He loved spending time with them, sharing stories, and creating memories that will be cherished for generations. His playful spirit and gentle guidance made him a beloved figure in their lives.
In his leisure time, Darrell enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time outdoors. He was an avid sports fan, often found cheering for his favorite teams. His laughter and love for life were contagious, and he had a remarkable ability to bring people together. Friends and family knew him as a storyteller, always ready to share a tale that would evoke laughter or provoke thoughtful discussion.
Darrell’s warm smile and genuine personality made him a friend to many. He had an uncanny ability to connect with people from all walks of life, and his compassion for others was evident in everything he did. Whether it was offering a listening ear or lending a helping hand, he always made time for those in need.
His legacy will live on through his family and the countless lives he touched. Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his children, Matthew (Emily) and Jennifer (Ryan); his grandchildren, Emma, Jack, and Sophie; and his siblings, Linda and James, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Darrell’s life will be held on November 3, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Dyersburg Community Center. Family and friends are invited to share their memories and stories in honor of this remarkable man. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dyersburg Community Food Bank, an organization dear to Darrell’s heart.
As we say goodbye to Darrell, we are reminded of the love he shared and the legacy he leaves behind. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. His spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him, and his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
