A family is grieving the loss of Fredy Lopez, who died in a tragic hit-and-run incident while placing flowers at a roadside memorial for his cousin in Memphis on Saturday night, November 2, 2024.
Lopez, a devoted father and husband, was struck by a vehicle while walking back across Winchester Road with his brother after paying tribute to their late cousin. His brother described Lopez as an easygoing individual who always aimed to help others.
According to reports, a maroon car collided with Lopez at the intersection of Winchester Road and Heather Ridge Drive. Witnesses noted that as they returned from the memorial, Lopez and his brother were unable to see the approaching vehicle in time.
The Memphis Police Department has released a photo showing damage to the front windshield of the vehicle involved in the incident. Despite a 15% decrease in fatal pedestrian accidents in the city this year, Lopez’s family expressed their heartache over his death, highlighting the loss of a family member who was cherished by many.
Now, they seek justice and are making arrangements to return Lopez’s body to Guatemala, where he has a wife and a child. Family members are urging anyone with information about the maroon car or the driver involved in the incident to contact the Memphis Police Department or CrimeStoppers.
