A man is confronting felony charges following an incident in which he collided with a state trooper during a traffic stop, as reported by the Illinois State Police. This event occurred on Monday shortly after 10:20 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-57, close to 108th Street in Morgan Park.
According to ISP, the trooper was positioned on the grassy embankment when a black Hyundai, traveling northbound, failed to yield, veered onto the shoulder, and struck both the trooper and two other parked vehicles.
The driver of the Hyundai has been identified as 22-year-old Dario A. Lopez-Arevalo from Robbins. He is facing a felony charge for breaching Scott’s Law and has received citations for operating a vehicle without a driver’s license, driving an uninsured vehicle, and several other violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code.
The trooper was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. The identity of the officer has not been disclosed. As of 2024, ISP has reported that ten troopers have sustained injuries in 21 incidents related to the Move Over Law throughout Illinois.
