Virginia State Police have identified the victim of a fatal five-vehicle crash on I-495 in Alexandria on Tuesday evening as 69-year-old Lauren Johnson-Lavender, a nurse from Mashpee, Massachusetts. Johnson-Lavender was killed at the scene when her Lexus SUV, which was stopped in traffic, was rear-ended by a Dodge Ram around 5:35 p.m.
The impact caused a chain reaction, pushing the Lexus into a Ford F-150. The Dodge Ram reportedly went airborne after colliding with the Lexus, then struck the Ford, a GMC Savana, and a Nissan Rogue before coming to rest on its side.
Three other people involved in the crash were taken to hospitals with injuries. Authorities have stated that charges are pending as the investigation continues.
