Dana Dimel Obituary, Death; – Longtime college football coach Dana Dimel passed away on Tuesday, as confirmed by his family. “Today is a challenging day for college football and our Illini family,” stated Illinois head coach Bret Bielema. “He influenced the lives of numerous coaches, players, and staff members over more than three decades in the sport.”
Dimel, a native of Columbus, Ohio, completed his education at Kansas State in 1986, where he earned recognition as an All-American offensive tackle. Following his collegiate career, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings and participated in their training camp in 1987, subsequently embarking on his coaching journey. His coaching experience also included positions in Wyoming and Texas.
Throughout his 32 seasons as either a head or assistant coach, Dimel guided 37 players who advanced to the NFL, as noted in a press release. Dimel was 62 years old at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife, Julie, and their children, Winston and Josey.
