Jorge Sosa Obituary ; 68-year-old Sergeant Major Jorge Sosa Passed Away

Sergeant Major Jorge F. Sosa, a highly respected veteran and beloved family man, passed away at his residence on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the age of 68.

Born on August 13, 1956, in Bogotá, Colombia, Jorge was the son of the late Jorge Enrique Sosa Salazar and Consuelo Mutis Gaitán. He was also preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Ashley Merriott.

Sergeant Major Sosa dedicated his life to service and leadership, retiring in June 2006 after 28 and a half years in the military. His distinguished career included roles in Force Reconnaissance, Infantry, and Security Forces, during which he exemplified commitment, integrity, and exceptional leadership. Beyond his military achievements, he was a devoted husband, father, and friend, remembered for his deep love for his wife, Susie, his family, and the soldiers he mentored throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife, Susie Sosa of Ellijay; sons Alex Italo Sosa and Jorge Eduardo Sosa, both of Boston; step-son Neal Merriott of Alabama; daughter Victoria Sosa of Raleigh, North Carolina; granddaughter Olivia Caroline Senter; and brother Juan Carlos Sosa.

In accordance with his wishes, Sergeant Major Sosa will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Bernhardt Funeral Home in Ellijay.

Sergeant Major Sosa leaves behind a legacy of honor, dedication, and love that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
