Ricky Delbert Edstrom Obituary, Death; – Authorities have disclosed the identity of a driver who tragically lost his life early Wednesday while attempting to remove a deceased deer from the roadway. Ricky Delbert Edstrom, a resident of Hastings, has been identified by the Hennepin County medical examiner’s office as the individual who was fatally struck.
The 69-year-old collided with a deer while traveling west on Dakota County Road 46, near General Sieben Drive in Marshan Township, located south of Hastings, as reported by the Dakota County sheriff’s office. Edstrom had stopped on the north shoulder to clear the deer from the road when another motorist came to assist him, according to authorities.
The assisting driver witnessed an eastbound vehicle collide with Edstrom. Dakota County officers received a report of the incident at 6:35 a.m. and, despite their efforts to administer life-saving measures, the man succumbed to his injuries. Sheriff Joe Leko noted in a post on X that the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident was unharmed and is cooperating with the investigation.
