Saverio Campagna Obituary, Death; – A man who perished in a fire in Canandaigua on Saturday morning has been identified. Saverio Campagna, aged 98, was declared deceased at the scene of the fire located at 59 Jefferson Avenue. The official cause of death will be established by the Monroe County medical examiner’s office, as stated by Canandaigua Fire Chief Frank Magnera on Monday.
Campagna’s wife and daughter were transported to FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua for treatment of smoke inhalation and are anticipated to make a full recovery, according to fire officials.
The fire has been classified as accidental, according to Magnera, although no additional details will be disclosed at this time. Firefighters were able to locate and retrieve Campagna, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by Canandaigua fire officials. The fire took approximately two hours to extinguish. The residence suffered extensive damage and is currently deemed uninhabitable, according to fire officials.
