Heriberto Garcia Obituary, Death; – A jury has found a man guilty of murder more than three years following a fatal shooting incident in Hartford. Daniel Lopez, 33, a resident of Hartford, was convicted of murder on November 22, 2024, as reported by Sharmese Walcott, the state’s attorney for the Judicial District of Hartford.
Evidence presented during the trial indicated that on April 14, 2021, Hartford police responded to a shooting report on Babcock Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 31-year-old Heriberto Garcia of Hartford suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper chest.
A witness provided a statement to the police, identifying Lopez as the shooter. The witness recounted observing the victim seated in the front passenger seat of a vehicle, with Lopez positioned in the rear seat directly behind him. The witness reported that while Lopez had the victim in a headlock, a single gunshot was heard, accompanied by the flash of a firearm. The victim then collapsed forward in the vehicle, prompting the witness to attempt to render assistance.
In addition to the murder conviction, the judge also found Lopez guilty of two counts of criminal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Sentencing is set for January 31, 2025, in Hartford Superior Court.
