The South African music world mourns the loss of Jan Bloukaas, born Jean du Plessis on October 7, 1999. Known for his comedic Afrikaans hit “Kaas Elke Dag,” Du Plessis passed away unexpectedly on December 2, 2024, at the age of 25. Despite his untimely passing, his vibrant spirit and enduring legacy continue to resonate with fans and loved ones.
Jan Bloukaas brought joy and laughter through his music, using humor and heartfelt emotion to connect with his audience. From his debut album Lewe, which earned a nomination for a South African Music Award, to his energetic sophomore release The Party Starter, he showcased versatility and dedication.
However, it was his final album, God Kan, launched on November 27, 2024, that revealed his deeply personal reflections and unwavering faith. In 2022, Du Plessis was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor that could not be surgically removed.
His battle with cancer became a testament to his resilience, as he continued to create music and share his journey openly with his fans. His candid updates on social media reflected his gratitude and determination to live fully despite the challenges.
In a poignant video shared shortly before his album release, Jan expressed his appreciation for his supporters: “I am sharing my soul with you in the form of sound. I love you all.” Tragically, his health declined soon after, and he passed away less than two weeks later.
