Anthony “Tony” Parisi, a beloved resident of Mt. Lebanon and a native of Niagara Falls, Ontario, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 30, 1933, to Francesco and Elisabetta Parisi, Tony led a remarkable life filled with accomplishments, dedication, and love for sports, family, and community.
Tony’s passion for athletics began early in life, showcasing his exceptional talent as a goaltender for the Niagara Falls Junior “B” Hockey team from 1947 to 1949. His skills earned him a spot in the Major Junior Ontario Hockey Association, where he played Junior “A” hockey for Galt. Tony’s career then took him overseas, where he played over 870 professional hockey games in Europe.
In 1962, his talents brought him back to North America, where he was called up to play for the American Hockey League’s Pittsburgh Hornets. After retiring from professional hockey in 1965, Tony embarked on a distinguished 34-year career as the equipment manager for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Tony’s ingenuity and dedication revolutionized his role, earning him recognition as a pioneer in the field. His meticulous attention to detail and commitment to his players’ well-being contributed significantly to the Steelers’ success during his tenure. In June 2022, the Pro Football Hall of Fame honored Tony with an “Award of Excellence,” a testament to his lasting impact on the sport. After retiring in 1999, Tony enjoyed a quieter life, focusing on family and supporting his grandsons, who carry on his athletic legacy through baseball.
