Adam Grant Gunderson Obituary, Death; – On Tuesday, officials named a 45-year-old man from Vancouver, Adam Grant Gunderson, as the individual who was fatally shot on December 4 by a police officer outside a Safeway store in east Vancouver. According to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office, Gunderson succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
The officer involved in the shooting has been identified as 28-year-old Kyle Beguelin Flores, who has been with the Vancouver Police Department since May 2021 and is assigned to the east precinct patrol. The Office of Independent Investigations is currently looking into the incident.
The encounter between Vancouver police and Gunderson occurred at 10:48 p.m. in the parking lot of Safeway, located at 13719 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd. Investigators report that a physical altercation ensued between Gunderson and Beguelin Flores, during which Gunderson allegedly brandished a firearm.
Court documents indicate that Gunderson had an outstanding warrant for his arrest related to a charge of attempting to evade a police officer in a 2023 case in Clark County Superior Court. A sheriff’s deputy had previously encountered Gunderson after receiving reports of him rummaging through trash in the Orchards area.
The deputy reported that Gunderson engaged in a verbal dispute and subsequently fled the scene, prompting the deputy to terminate the pursuit due to Gunderson’s reckless driving. Investigators have not confirmed whether the police interaction with Gunderson was initiated because of the existing warrant.
As part of standard procedure, three Vancouver officers, including Beguelin Flores and two witnesses to the shooting, have been placed on critical incident leave. The Office of Independent Investigations is requesting any tips related to the shooting, urging anyone with information to contact 564-250-5811.
