Robert Rathvon Obituary, Death; – One year following the tragic loss of her son in a hit-and-run incident, a mother from Camano Island is making a heartfelt appeal for information. Robert Rathvon, aged 35, was fatally struck along state Route 3 in Poulsbo on December 9, 2023. The driver responsible for the incident remains unidentified.
Detectives from the Washington State Patrol have collected evidence, including surveillance footage, yet they continue to seek assistance from the public to resolve the case. Kathryn Rathvon, Robert’s mother, conveyed her enduring sorrow. “We experience difficult days and then even more challenging ones. It does not truly become easier, as that void in our hearts persists,” she remarked.
On the night of the incident, Robert was in downtown Poulsbo. Grainy surveillance footage captured him walking through a parking lot adjacent to a restaurant. At approximately 12:20 a.m., images show him passing by an auto dealership. The last ping from his cellphone was recorded just before 1 a.m., which investigators believe may indicate when the phone was damaged in the collision.
The absence of answers has deepened the family’s anguish. Kathryn Rathvon expressed her desire for clarity. “At this moment, we do not comprehend what transpired,” Kathryn stated. “We seek answers. It would provide some relief.”
A reward of $26,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the individual responsible. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact CrimeStoppers. WSP Detective Krista Hedstrom can be reached at 360-731-1108 or via email at Krista.Hedstrom@wsp.wa.gov.
