Gemma Devonish Obituary, Death; – The victim has been identified as Gemma Devonish, aged 42, who was discovered by police officers yesterday morning following a call to a residence on Nutfield Close, located off Wrythe Lane. She was declared deceased at the scene.
A 38-year-old male has been apprehended in the early hours of this morning on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody, as reported by the Metropolitan Police.
Authorities have indicated that the suspect and Devonish were acquainted. The Metropolitan Police stated, “At this time, detectives are not seeking anyone else in connection with this incident.”
Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila expressed, “Our thoughts are with Gemma’s family and friends as they navigate this profoundly tragic situation. We are committed to providing them with all necessary support.”
He further urged anyone who was in the vicinity of Nutfield Close and may have observed or heard anything unusual, particularly on Wednesday, December 18, or the morning of Thursday, December 19, to reach out.
Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, representing the South Area Command Unit responsible for policing in Sutton, remarked, “I share the community’s shock and concern regarding this dreadful incident. A dedicated team of detectives is making substantial progress in the investigation and has promptly arrested a man who is now in police custody.
“Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in and around Nutfield Close as crucial investigative activities are conducted. “I appreciate the community’s patience during this process and encourage anyone with concerns to approach an officer for assistance.”
