Danville, IL – Authorities have identified 35-year-old Joseph Jones of Champaign as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred late Saturday night in Danville. The tragic incident has left the community in shock as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Danville police officers responded to a report of a “subject lying on the ground” at the intersection of Collett and Williams Streets around 11 p.m. on Saturday. At the same time, officers in the vicinity reported hearing gunfire in the area. Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered an unresponsive male with multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers immediately initiated life-saving measures and continued until emergency medical services (EMS) arrived. Despite their efforts, Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. The Vermilion County Coroner later confirmed Jones’ identity as the victim of the shooting.
The Illinois State Police have been called in to assist the Danville Police Department with the ongoing crime scene investigation. Authorities have released limited information about the incident at this time, as they work to determine the events leading up to the shooting.
