Jamie Cavey Lang, made a significant impact as a player for the Hawkeyes from 2001 to 2005 and later shared her insights as a radio commentator,
A native of Mechanicsville, Lang was a key member of North Cedar’s Class 2A state championship team in 2000.
She went on to play for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes from 2001 to 2005, leaving an impressive mark on the program. Over her career, she accumulated 1,265 points (27th in program history), 506 rebounds (31st), and 94 blocks (eighth). A two-time all-Big Ten selection, Lang earned second-team honors during her senior year and played in the NCAA tournament in 2002 and 2004.
Lang earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a master’s degree at Iowa, before continuing her basketball career as a professional player in Europe. She also spent several years as a color commentator for the Hawkeye Radio Network alongside play-by-play announcer Rob Brooks.
Lang is survived by her husband Mike, children Vincent, Bennett, and Sydney, as well as her parents Patrick and Pam Cavey, and siblings Ann (Jack) Jameson, Kelsie (Chad) Dotterer, and Jason (Stacey) Cavey. She is also remembered by her grandmother Sharon Mertka, father and mother-in-law Ken and Jayne Lang, sisters-in-law Amie (Joe) Stewart, Melissa (Mark) Storm, Abbie (Eric) Mahoney, Chantelle (Bob) Foote, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at The Celebration Farm, located 4696 Robin Woods Lane NE, Iowa City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Solon.
