It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel Marvin Tack, a beloved son, brother, friend, and servant of Christ, who tragically passed away on December 24, 2024, at the age of 19. Dan’s unexpected death has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him, and while the pain of losing him is immense, we find comfort knowing that he is now resting in the arms of Jesus, whom he loved deeply.
Dan will be remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him as a kind, humble, and compassionate young man with a servant’s heart. He touched the lives of countless individuals with his genuine love for others, his commitment to his faith, and his unwavering dedication to service. Dan had a heart that sought to help and uplift those around him, and his absence will be felt by many.
Born to Heather and Daniel Tack, Dan was raised in a loving, close-knit family where he learned the importance of faith, compassion, and kindness. From a young age, it was clear that Dan was destined to make a difference in the lives of those around him. His deep love for his family was evident in everything he did, and he always sought to support and care for his siblings. Whether it was lending a hand to his younger sisters, or being a source of strength for his brothers, Dan was always there when his family needed him most.
Dan’s faith was the foundation of his life. He was an active and devoted member of his church community, particularly in the Christian Service Brigade, where he found his calling to serve others. His work within the church youth and young adult ministries exemplified his desire to be a light in the lives of others. Whether participating in church activities or offering guidance to younger members, Dan was always willing to serve, eager to share his love for Christ with others.
One of Dan’s greatest passions was working with youth. He found fulfillment in coaching with Elev8 Basketball, where he volunteered his time to mentor and guide young athletes. His approach to coaching was not only about teaching the game but also about instilling life lessons, values, and faith in the kids he worked with. Dan had the unique ability to connect with others, especially the younger generation, and they looked up to him for his guidance, encouragement, and genuine care. He was more than a coach to them—he was a mentor and a friend, someone who believed in their potential both on and off the court.
Dan’s humility, integrity, and kind spirit made him a cherished friend to many. He had an infectious joy about him, and his ability to make those around him feel comfortable and valued was one of his many gifts. His family and friends often recall his infectious laugh, his warm smile, and the way he made everyone feel included and accepted. He never sought attention for himself, always giving credit to others and lifting them up instead.
Dan’s love for his family was unmatched. He shared a special bond with his mother, Heather, who was his greatest supporter, confidante, and role model. His siblings, Naomi, Abigail, Edward, Julia, Lily, Elaine, and Samson, were the center of his world, and he was a loving and devoted brother to each of them. His grandparents, Elaine Tack and Dan and Marlene Fortney, were also a source of great love and encouragement in his life. Dan’s family takes comfort knowing that he is now with the Lord, and though their hearts are broken, they take solace in the knowledge that Dan’s love for them will continue to guide them.
Dan’s friends, church family, and ministry colleagues have shared their deep sadness at his passing but also their immense gratitude for the time they had with him. His life was one of service, kindness, and compassion, and his legacy will continue through the lives of those he touched. “Oh, if only you knew how loved you were, buddy,” said one of his closest friends. “I will forever be thankful for how deeply you loved my brother. You touched so many lives, and there won’t be a day that goes by that I don’t think of you. Rest easy in the arms of Jesus, sweet Dan.”
Dan’s loss is deeply felt by all who knew him, but his impact will never be forgotten. His commitment to his faith, his family, and his community has left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. His servant’s heart, his compassion, and his love for others will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service to honor Dan’s life will be held on Saturday, December 28th, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Columbia Presbyterian Church, located at 10001 MD-108, Columbia, MD 21044. The family invites all who wish to celebrate Dan’s life and legacy to join them in this time of remembrance and prayer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center in Columbia, MD, a cause close to Dan’s heart. Grassroots provides vital services to individuals and families in need, and Dan’s family believes this is a fitting way to honor his legacy of serving others.
