Ernestina Eumana-Alvarez,Christian Gutierrez Obituary, Death; – Two individuals, including a child, lost their lives and seven others sustained injuries in a two-vehicle collision that occurred early Thursday on Interstate 35 in south-central Kansas, as reported by authorities.
The incident was recorded at 12:01 a.m. on I-35 near the Kansas Turnpike, approximately five miles west of Mulvane and about ten miles south of Wichita. According to the online crash log maintained by the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2020 Chevrolet Express van, which was pulling a trailer, overturned in the southbound lanes of I-35. A 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, also traveling southbound, collided with the van while attempting to evade it.
The patrol confirmed that two individuals in the van were fatally injured in the accident. They have been identified as Ernestina Eumana-Alvarez, 58, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Christian Gutierrez, a child whose age has not yet been disclosed, also from Minneapolis.
The patrol noted that Eumana-Alvarez was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, while Gutierrez was not. Several other passengers in the van were injured, and they have been identified as follows:
• Tiburcio Gonzalez, 55, from Circle Pines, Minnesota, who was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with serious injuries. The patrol indicated that Gonzalez was wearing his seat belt.
• Ines Benitez-Miranda, 67, whose city of residence is unknown, was taken to Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita with serious injuries. The patrol reported that Benitez-Miranda was wearing her seat belt.
• Roberto Cuate, 47, from Richfield, Minnesota, was also taken to Wesley Medical Center with serious injuries. The patrol confirmed that Cuate was wearing his seat belt.
• Rosa Gutierrez, 27, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, was transported to Wesley Medical Center with serious injuries. The patrol stated that Gutierrez was wearing her seat belt.
• Roberto Gutierrez-Quintero, 63, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, was taken to Wesley Medical Center with serious injuries. The patrol noted that Gutierrez-Quintero was wearing his seat belt.
• Reya Linares De Cuate, 64, from Richfield, Minnesota, was transported to Wesley Medical Center with suspected minor injuries.
