We are saddened to announce the death of Professor David Rhind, a distinguished geographer, academic leader, and former Vice-Chancellor of City, University of London.
Professor Rhind served as Vice-Chancellor for nine years, from 1998 to 2007, during which time he left a strong mark on our institution. His vision and commitment helped shape what is now City St George’s into the university it is today.
A pioneer in the field of geography, Professor Rhind’s contributions extended beyond academia; he served as Chair of The Nuffield Foundation, Deputy Chair of the UK Statistics Authority, and Non-Executive Director of the Bank of England. Prior to joining City, he was Director General and CEO of the Ordnance Survey. He was deeply respected for his work in geographical information systems (GIS) and was recognized internationally for his research and leadership.
David will be remembered not only for his leadership and professional achievements but also for his warmth and his support for colleagues. Our thoughts are with David’s family and friends during this difficult time. As a community we honor his contributions and will ensure his legacy endures.
Feel free to drop condolence messages and prayers for the family and friends of the deceased, as it will go a very long way at this difficult time of theirs.
