It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear Brother, Johnny Ray Bertram, PM. Brother Bertram was a devoted member of the Masonic Brotherhood and a cornerstone of the fraternity. His journey began on September 23, 1975, when he was initiated as an Entered Apprentice. He was Passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on October 21, 1975, and Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on November 18, 1975. From that day forward, Brother Bertram dedicated his life to upholding the values and principles of Freemasonry.
Throughout his nearly five decades in the fraternity, Brother Bertram demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment. He held various significant positions, including Junior Warden in 2019 and 2021, Senior Warden in 2020, and Worshipful Master in 2023. As a proficient ritualist and proficiency card holder, Brother Bertram’s mastery of Masonic traditions was unmatched. He was a mentor to many and a shining example of dedication, guiding countless Masons through their journeys with patience and wisdom.
Brother Bertram’s contributions extended beyond the ceremonial aspects of Freemasonry. He believed in the potential of every Mason, encouraging them to strive for excellence both within the lodge and in their personal lives. His gentle yet firm approach left a lasting impression on everyone he taught, particularly as he emphasized the symbolic significance of wearing the apron with honor and respect.
As a fifty-year member in 2025, Brother Bertram’s legacy is one of service, friendship, and unwavering commitment to the values of Freemasonry. His brothers and friends will forever remember his presence, his love for the fraternity, and his steadfast dedication to ensuring its traditions endured. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral arrangements for Brother Johnny Ray Bertram will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Mundy Funeral Home’s Clarkrange Chapel. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, with a Masonic Service preceding the funeral. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, honoring the life of a man whose legacy will remain etched in the hearts of his brothers and community.
Brother Johnny Ray Bertram has laid down the working tools of life, but his memory will continue to guide and inspire those he left behind. Rest in peace, Brother Bertram, and may your light forever shine in the eternal lodge above.
