The Fulton Police Department received notification of an assault involving two patients at Fulton State Hospital on January 6, 2025, shortly before 6:00 p.m., on January 7, 2025, at 1549 hours.
The 53-year-old male victim, Christos Karagiannis, passed away from wounds he sustained during an assault by the 29-year-old defendant, Jabril Kanatzar.
On January 8, 2025, Karagiannis was taken to University Hospital and taken off life support.
Kanatzar is being jailed without bond in a secure facility for first-degree murder and fourth-degree assault against a second victim. The public is not in danger.
As of right now, no additional information is available for public release. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
