A terrible two-vehicle accident occurred Monday morning in Mitchell County, Kansas, killing one and critically wounding another. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported the incident at roughly 6:50 p.m. on K-14 highway, about five miles north of Beloit.
The investigation discovered that a 2010 Toyota Tundra driven by Christopher J. Herz, 39, of Burr Oak, was going north on K-14 when it crossed the centerline. The Toyota collided with a southbound 2008 Ford Escape driven by Cady G. Travis, 44, of Jewell. Tragically, Travis was pronounced dead on the scene. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Travis was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Herz was sent to Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit after suffering severe injuries. Herz was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident, according to the authorities. When the collision occurred, both drivers were by themselves in their cars.
Officials are investigating the crash to find out why the Toyota crossed into oncoming traffic.
