A 14-year-old girl lost her life in a tragic three-car collision on Route 8 near Shelton early on Sunday morning, while multiple others were hurt. State police reports indicate that the incident happened close to exit 7 at approximately 12:30 a.m.
The incident started when a 38-year-old Shelton man driving a Honda CR-V collided with a 37-year-old Waterbury man driving a Honda Civic. The Honda Civic lost control as a result of the incident, veered past the center median, and entered the southbound traffic lanes.
A 22-year-old Stamford male was operating a Honda Accord in those southbound lanes. The Accord collided with the uncontrollably moving Honda Civic on the passenger side as it came into his line of sight. Chloe Alyssa Ramsubhag, 14, of Waterbury, was one of the passengers in the Civic; she tragically passed away at the scene from her injuries. The Civic’s driver, who was also from Waterbury, was taken to St. Vincent Hospital for treatment after suffering severe injuries.
The driver of the Honda Accord left the scene of the crash. But when he later called to report what seemed to be the same accident, things took a different course.
After locating the car, police discovered the driver at Griffin Hospital, where he had gone to receive treatment for unidentified injuries. After it was established that this was the Accord that had been involved in the collision, the driver was sent to Bridgeport Hospital for minor medical attention.
The state police are still looking into what caused this fatal event. Through the gathering of evidence, witness accounts, and a thorough examination of the crash scene, they are painstakingly putting the events together.
