Johnn was born on March 22, 1952, in Wisconsin, to his parents, Gerald and Margaret Molburg. From an early age, Johnn demonstrated a natural curiosity and an insatiable desire to learn. His family, especially his father, instilled in him a strong sense of responsibility, discipline, and a deep respect for hard work. Johnn excelled academically and athletically in school, where he was known for his quick wit, kind heart, and infectious smile.
He was active in his community and participated in many local activities, from sports leagues to volunteer work, always eager to lend a hand to those in need. In 1970, Johnn graduated from Wisconsin High School, where he earned recognition not only for his academic achievements but also for his leadership and athleticism. He was a key player on his high school football team, and his love for the game continued throughout his life.
After high school, Johnn went on to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering at University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he graduated in 1974. It was there that he met his future wife, Cynthia “Cindy” Bell, who would become the love of his life. They were married on July 15, 1976, in a ceremony that was a testament to their deep affection and commitment to one another.
Together, Johnn and Cindy moved to Pennsylvania in 1980, where they began their family and built a life filled with love and laughter. Their home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was always open to friends and family, and their hospitality and warmth became the foundation of many cherished memories. Over the years, Johnn worked as a successful engineer, contributing to the development of several key projects that shaped the landscape of the region. His commitment to his work was evident in everything he did.
Johnn’s colleagues knew him as a thoughtful, dedicated professional who would go above and beyond to ensure the success of every project he was involved in. Johnn also found immense joy in his role as a grandfather. His grandchildren, Ethan, Lily, and Olivia, were the lights of his life. He took great delight in spending time with them, teaching them about the world, sharing stories from his own childhood, and instilling in them the same values that had shaped his own life.
Whether it was playing games, reading books, or taking long walks together, Johnn found joy in the simple moments spent with his family. His love for his grandchildren was boundless, and his presence in their lives was a gift that will forever be treasured. In addition to his family, Johnn was deeply committed to his community. Johnn is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cynthia “Cindy” Molburg; his children, Kevin (Rachel) Molburg, Sarah Molburg (Mark), and Matthew Molburg; his grandchildren, Ethan, Lily, and Olivia; his siblings, David Molburg, Nancy (Tom) Bell, and Jill (Paul) Parker; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Margaret Molburg, and his sister, Deborah Molburg.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 18, 2025, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The family will receive visitors starting at 10:00 AM, with a memorial service following at 11:00 AM. A reception will be held immediately after the service at the church’s fellowship hall, where family and friends will gather to share stories and memories of Johnn’s remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pittsburgh Food Bank or Habitat for Humanity, two organizations that were dear to Johnn’s heart.
