Authorities have identified Takoda Gallegos, a 17-year-old from Vandalia, Michigan, as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday night.
Police were dispatched to the 200 block of North Indiana Avenue at approximately 8:45 p.m. following reports of a baby being shot. However, upon arrival, officers determined that the initial report was false. Inside the home, they discovered Gallegos with life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Despite efforts to save him, Gallegos was pronounced dead at the scene. In the aftermath, the St. Joseph County Metro SWAT team assisted in identifying and apprehending a juvenile suspect. Due to their age, the suspect’s identity has not been released, and they are currently being held at the St. Joseph County Juvenile Justice Center.
The Mishawaka Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and has assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
