It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Arthur “Art” Martineau, Executive Director of Miami Beach PAL (Police Athletic League), beloved husband, father, and friend. Art passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer, leaving a legacy of service, kindness, and leadership that will never be forgotten.
Art was not just a leader; he was the embodiment of what it means to care for others. His genuine warmth, sharp wit, and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of others made him a cherished figure to all who knew him. His big smile and the way he made others feel seen and heard were just the beginning of the positive impact he had on his community. Art had a gift for making everyone feel at ease, whether it was through his thoughtful listening or his incredible ability to offer advice that changed lives.
Those who were fortunate enough to work alongside Art witnessed firsthand the depth of his intellect, his kindness, and his tireless commitment to his work. He was known for his unparalleled leadership, always willing to go the extra mile for his team, his community, and the youth he so deeply cared about. Art’s role as the Executive Director of Miami Beach PAL was a reflection of his passion for creating brighter futures for the youth of South Florida. His work impacted countless young people, offering them guidance, support, and opportunities to reach their full potential. His contributions to the Miami Beach Police Department and his service to his community extended far beyond the job—he truly changed lives.
Art’s career was one of distinction, beginning with his service in the City of Miami Beach Police Department, where he worked diligently to keep his community safe. His commitment to service didn’t end with his work in law enforcement; it was evident in everything he did. As Executive Director of Miami Beach PAL and Board President of PAL of South Florida, Art’s leadership helped steer the organization toward success, fostering positive relationships between police officers and the youth of the community. His influence reached far and wide, making a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working with him.
As a colleague, Art was the epitome of integrity, professionalism, and camaraderie. He was a boss who led by example, always ready to offer guidance or lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. His sharp wit and sense of humor made him not only a respected leader but also a friend to many. He knew how to balance hard work with lighthearted moments, and his ability to bring people together was truly remarkable.
As a husband, Art was deeply devoted to his wife, Deborah Martineau, who also served as a Police Officer with the Miami Beach Police Department. The two shared a special bond, grounded in love, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to serving their community. Our thoughts are with Deborah, who has lost not only a loving partner but also her best friend.
Art was also a proud father to his wonderful children: Artrena Martineau, Nicole Doty, Demetrius Smith, Alexis Martineau, and Arthur Martineau III. He was a father who led with love and care, always making sure his children knew how much they were cherished. His unwavering support and devotion to his family were evident in everything he did, and his children’s strength, resilience, and love for him are a testament to the remarkable father he was.
Though Art’s physical presence is no longer with us, his legacy will live on in the many lives he touched. His contributions to the community, his leadership at Miami Beach PAL, and the lessons he shared with those around him will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a community that is better because of his tireless work and a family that will carry his love with them always.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Major Robert Jenkins, Board President of Miami Beach PAL, we extend our deepest condolences to Art’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We ask for prayers and comfort for his beloved wife Deborah and their children, who now face a future without the man who was their rock, their guide, and their greatest supporter. We stand with them, and we know that Art’s memory will be a source of strength and peace in the days to come.
