The Bowling Green Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early this morning. At 1:48 AM, officers responded to a report of gunfire at 110 Audley Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a 16-year-old male deceased in the backyard of the apartment complex, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Tylan J. Barnett, 22, told detectives he was at the apartment after his sister contacted him earlier in the evening, believing someone was attempting to break into the residence. Barnett claimed he saw two individuals outside and assumed they were the same people from earlier.
He stated that he went outside armed, saw one person fleeing from the back of the residence, and fired multiple shots at another individual who was also running away. Barnett admitted to discarding the firearm in the brush line near the apartment.
Barnett is currently held at the Warren County Regional Jail and faces charges of Murder and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the victim’s name will be released once the family has been notified.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bowling Green Police Department.
