A shooting at a nightclub in Amarillo, Texas, early Sunday left one person dead and eight others injured, according to the Amarillo Police Department. The incident occurred in downtown Amarillo shortly after 2 a.m.
The victim killed in the attack was identified as 25-year-old John Love Louima. Eight additional victims, whose identities have not been released, suffered injuries of varying severity.
Six were transported to local hospitals by emergency responders, while three others sought medical attention on their own. As of Sunday afternoon, the surviving victims were undergoing various stages of medical treatment.
Authorities arrested three suspects connected to the shooting: 23-year-old Robert Kenney Knox, 21-year-old Nahryah Hilesta Ines Hayes, and 22-year-old Britt Brinson Cave. Knox and Hayes face murder charges, while Cave was charged with public intoxication.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an earlier argument inside the nightclub. According to police, Knox, Hayes, and Cave were in a vehicle that stopped in front of the club. Hayes, who was driving, remained in the car while Knox exited and fired a rifle into a large crowd gathered outside the venue. After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene in their vehicle.
A witness followed the fleeing suspects and contacted 911 to provide their location. Thanks to the witness’s quick actions, Randall County Sheriff’s deputies were able to locate and stop the vehicle. Amarillo police later credited the witness for their bravery and persistence in helping apprehend the suspects.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Police are working to uncover additional details about the argument that led to the violence and the roles each suspect played in the attack.
