UPDATE: The victim of the fatal shooting that occurred on S. 6th St yesterday evening has been identified as 18-year-old Fernanda Leon from Osceola, IN. The Elkhart County Homicide Unit has been activated, as per protocol, and is leading the investigation. The case remains active and ongoing, and any inquiries about the investigation should be directed to the Homicide Unit. On January 26, 2025, at approximately 11:20 p.m., the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received reports of gunshots near 6th St and Hively.
Shortly afterward, an unconscious female gunshot victim was brought by car to Elkhart General Hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Elkhart Police Department officers responded to a residence in the 2700 block of S. 6th St in connection with the incident, and the Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated to handle the case.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available.
