Margaret Wiggins Obituary, Death; – A 40-year-old man has been apprehended in connection with the murder of his 97-year-old grandmother, as reported by Sacramento County deputies on Friday.
The victim has been identified as Margaret Wiggins. According to Sgt. Amar Gandhi of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence on American River Drive near Ashton Drive following calls from neighbors who requested a welfare check on Wiggins, as they had not seen her for some time.
Upon their arrival, deputies encountered the victim’s grandson, Brian Wiggins, aged 40, along with his girlfriend, 31-year-old Dozsha Beckwith. Brian Wiggins informed the deputies that his grandmother had taken an Uber to visit relatives at an assisted living facility.
Deputies noted that the home appeared to have been ransacked, with several safes seemingly broken into and a section of carpet removed. Both Brian Wiggins and Beckwith were detained to facilitate further investigation.
The sheriff’s office later reported that Margaret Wiggins was discovered deceased in the trunk of a vehicle parked in the garage. Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators subsequently took charge of the investigation.
Detectives uncovered that the two suspects had forcibly entered the home in search of shelter. When Margaret Wiggins requested that they leave, Brian Wiggins allegedly assaulted her fatally and concealed her body in the trunk of his vehicle.
Both Brian Wiggins and Beckwith have been formally charged, with Brian Wiggins facing homicide charges and Dozsha Beckwith charged with burglary and being an accessory after the fact. They have been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and are set to appear in court on Tuesday.
