Richard Darren French Obituary, Death; – The Corpus Christi Police Department informed 3NEWS that witnesses reported Richard Darren French was traveling in the right lane of the highway near NPID when he veered off the road and collided with a support beam on an overpass, resulting in his death.
The Nueces Medical Examiner confirmed the identity of the 54-year-old man on Tuesday, following the incident that caused the closure of I-37 and SH 358 at the eastbound interchange for several hours.
Officers were dispatched to the 5700 block of IH 37 eastbound shortly before 6:30 a.m. in response to the significant single-vehicle accident. French was declared dead at the scene, and he was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The cause of the driver leaving the roadway remains undetermined at this time. Corpus Christi police have stated that the major crash involving a single vehicle on Tuesday morning is fatal.
Investigators are currently on-site, and officers are managing the major traffic incident at the I-37 southbound and SH 358 eastbound interchange. The flyover from I-37 to SH 358 eastbound is currently closed. Motorists are advised to find alternative routes and anticipate delays.
