Kevin Welton Barco, 56, was tragically struck and killed by two vehicles while crossing the road with his bicycle in Elizabeth City.
The incident occurred around 6:46 p.m. on Tuesday in the 1700 block of Weeksville Road. Barco was crossing when he was hit by both vehicles, whose drivers remained at the scene. Emergency responders arrived quickly and attempted life-saving measures, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Elizabeth City Police Department is asking for the public’s help in gathering information about the incident.
Depending on the outcome of investigations, Barco’s family may consider pursuing a wrongful death claim. Families who lose loved ones in tragic accidents often seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, and other damages.
Attorney Candice Bond emphasized that grieving families can find the legal process overwhelming but may benefit from the guidance of an experienced attorney. She stressed the importance of conducting an independent investigation to preserve critical evidence and determine if negligence played a role in the accident.
“In addition to law enforcement efforts, an attorney can provide valuable resources, such as expert witness interviews, background checks on defendants, and a thorough review of insurance coverage,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. GoFundMe
