Steve Ehretsman Atlanta GA Death and Obituary – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steve Ehretsman, the Founder and CEO of Shamrock Prosthetics, Inc., based in Atlanta, Georgia. Steve’s death marks the end of an extraordinary life of resilience, determination, and a commitment to bettering the lives of amputees. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him and those whose lives were touched by his work.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Steve made the bold decision to relocate to Atlanta two decades ago, where he quickly became a key figure in the prosthetics industry. His path into this field, however, was deeply personal. In 2001, Steve was struck by a car while walking through a fast-food restaurant’s parking lot in Buckhead. The accident, caused by a young driver who accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, led to severe injuries that required 13 surgeries over the course of a year in an attempt to save his right leg. Unfortunately, complications from the surgeries forced Steve to make the difficult decision to undergo a below-knee amputation.
A former Division I athlete and captain of the Boston University basketball team, Steve’s athleticism had always been an integral part of his identity. The loss of his limb was a devastating blow, but it sparked a deep resolve within him. Steve immersed himself in training, not only to regain his physical abilities but to demonstrate to others facing similar challenges that it was possible to overcome adversity. Just six months after receiving his first prosthetic leg, Steve completed a half-marathon. His determination did not stop there; he went on to participate in triathlons and returned to competitive basketball, even achieving his dream of dunking again. These feats were not only personal milestones but also powerful symbols of hope for others in the amputee community.
In 2015, Steve founded Shamrock Prosthetics with a clear mission: to transform the patient care experience in the prosthetics industry. He developed the “MindBODY Amputee Care” philosophy, which emphasized a holistic approach to healing—addressing both the physical and emotional needs of amputees. Under Steve’s leadership, Shamrock Prosthetics became a beacon of innovation and compassion, setting a new standard in the industry. His company’s commitment to comprehensive care earned them multiple accolades, including the National Service Provider/Vendor Comp Laude Award in 2021 and the title of #1 Best of the Best in the DME Category by Workplace Health Magazine in 2022.
Steve’s work didn’t go unnoticed in the broader community. In 2023, he was honored with the Bloom Excellence Award for Men Leading The Way in Workers Compensation. Beyond professional recognition, Steve made significant contributions to his community. His admiration for the U.S. military led him to create a custom challenge coin in honor of Shamrock Prosthetics’ ninth anniversary, a gesture that highlighted his deep respect for leadership, loyalty, and unity. His commitment to the community was also acknowledged with a city proclamation from Brookhaven, Georgia, recognizing the company’s positive impact.
Steve’s personal journey and the way he transformed his challenges into a platform for helping others became an inspiration to many. He frequently shared his story, including a feature on “The Mindside” podcast, where he discussed his struggles and the purpose he found in helping others navigate life after amputation.
Patients of Shamrock Prosthetics consistently praised Steve for creating a supportive and compassionate environment, with many describing the staff as like family. One patient stated, “Shamrock Prosthetics has changed my life!! This place has the best staff and patient care… Our patients are family to us!!”
Steve Ehretsman’s legacy will live on through Shamrock Prosthetics and the countless lives he impacted with his unwavering dedication and innovative vision. He is survived by his family, friends, colleagues, and the amputee community he served. His life reminds us of the power of resilience, the importance of purpose, and how one person’s efforts can change the world.
In honor of Steve’s memory, Shamrock Prosthetics encourages donations to organizations that support amputees and advance prosthetic care, continuing his mission of service and compassion.
