Greg Millen Death and Obituary – It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Greg Millen, a former NHL goaltender who later became a respected broadcaster. Millen died at the age of 67, leaving behind a legacy that spans both his playing career and his years as a commentator. He was a key figure in the hockey world, known for his insightful commentary and his dedication to the game.

Born in 1957, Greg Millen’s journey in professional hockey began when he made his NHL debut in the 1978-79 season. Over the course of his 14-season career, Millen played for several teams, including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Hartford Whalers, St. Louis Blues, Quebec Nordiques, Chicago Blackhawks, and Detroit Red Wings. As a goaltender, he was known for his agility, leadership, and consistency, earning a reputation as a reliable presence between the pipes. Throughout his career, Millen’s ability to stay calm under pressure helped his teams in key moments, and his contributions were valuable, even though he often played behind other star players in his era.

Millen’s playing career spanned from 1978 to 1992, marking the end of an era of goaltending. By the time he retired, the NHL had undergone numerous changes, and Millen had experienced the highs and lows of professional hockey. His time with the Penguins was notably during the franchise’s early struggles, and his tenure with the Blackhawks and Red Wings saw him part of some of the most competitive teams in the league. Millen finished his playing career with over 300 games played in the NHL, and although he never won a Stanley Cup, his contributions were always valued by those who played alongside him.

Following his retirement from professional hockey, Millen transitioned into a successful career in broadcasting. His deep knowledge of the game and his approachable, insightful manner made him a beloved figure on both Hockey Night in Canada and the NHL on SportsNet. His work as a color commentator allowed fans to gain a greater understanding of the intricacies of hockey, with his clear explanations and thoughtful analysis. Millen’s passion for the game was evident in every broadcast, and his voice became synonymous with hockey for a generation of fans.

In addition to his work with Hockey Night in Canada and SportsNet, Millen made his mark during the inaugural season of the Ottawa Senators, where he provided coverage for the new team. His commentary added depth to the Senators’ early years, and he quickly became a trusted voice for fans of the team and the league as a whole. His ability to connect with fans, both through his personal experiences as a player and his deep understanding of the sport, endeared him to many.

Millen’s death leaves a significant void in the hockey community. His contributions to the game, both as a player and a broadcaster, are immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Greg Millen’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. His legacy will live on, not only through his contributions on the ice but also through the many fans and colleagues who admired his work behind the microphone.

Greg Millen was more than just a goaltender or a broadcaster—he was a beloved figure in the hockey world whose impact will continue to be felt for years to come.
