Jade Torres Obituary, Death Sutherland, NE – The community of Sutherland, Nebraska is mourning the tragic death of 22-year-old Jade Torres, who lost her life in a devastating car accident on Monday, April 14, 2025. Originally from Woodland, California, Jade was living in Sutherland and had been building a life in the small Nebraska town. According to reports from law enforcement, the crash occurred near the intersection of North Prairie Trace Road and West Snake Road, north of Sutherland.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a vehicle that had veered off the road and struck a tree. Upon arrival, deputies found Sutherland first responders attending to the male driver, identified as 24-year-old Alexander Gomez, also of Sutherland. Sadly, the female passenger, identified as Jade Torres, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators determined that the vehicle, a 2014 Ford Explorer, had been traveling southbound at a very high speed.
The SUV reportedly went airborne after crossing railroad tracks, landed, and then became airborne a second time. During this airborne phase, the vehicle rotated and struck a large cottonwood tree with the roof, which was crushed into the passenger side where Jade was seated. Alexander Gomez sustained serious injuries, including a fractured neck, collapsed lung, fractured shoulder blade, and brain bruising. He was transported to Great Plains Health for treatment and remains under medical care.
Authorities reported that Gomez consented to a blood alcohol test, which came back positive for alcohol. He is expected to be arrested at a later date in connection with the incident. The sudden and tragic loss of Jade Torres has left her family, friends, and the local community in shock. A graduate of Woodland High School, Jade is remembered for her vibrant spirit and the positive impact she had on those around her.
